Speaking to journalists in the resort town of Victoria Falls on Monday night, ZTA chief executive Karikoga Kaseke it would be a “gross miscarriage of justice” to ignore Tuku’s contribution to the image-building process of the country.
Kaseke said the Senior Superstar been a “tourist attraction” to fans all over the world and has managed to represent the country by portraying it as an ideal tourist destination.
“Oliver Mtukudzi’s musical prowess has managed to fly the country’s flag high all over the world. In this light we have nominated him to be our cultural and tourism ambassador.
“His talent is undoubted and he has represented the country well on the world stage,” said Kaseke.
Also addressing journalists, Mtukudzi said he was greatly touched and humbled by the positive development.
He said he was just a simple artiste doing what he knows best on stage to entertain the people all over the world.
“I am humbled by this praise and recognition,” he said.
The United Nations has already honoured Tuku and accorded him the goodwill ambassador status.
Meanwhile, Tuku put up a splendid performance at the Culture Night held at Elephant Hills Golf Club.
Dressed in all white, the Senior Superstar lived up to expectations by presenting a five-star performance in front of a capacity, cosmopolitan audience.
Villagers from Mpisi Village and residents from high density suburb of Chinotimba and Mkhosana thronged the venue to celebrate the culture night organised by ZTA.
The five-day 37th edition of the Africa Travel Association congress ended here on Tuesday.
