Tungwarara mourns Chivayo, wife and helicopter crash victims

SPECIAL Advisor to the President on Investment and Empowerment Dr Paul Tungwarara has mourned businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Mrs Lucy Chivayo and other victims of the Marondera helicopter crash.

The helicopter crashed in Marondera on Wednesday evening, killing all people on board.

In a condolence message, Dr Tungwarara described Sir Wicknell as his “brother and partner in development” and said his death was a profound loss to Zimbabwe.

“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences following the tragic helicopter crash in Marondera,” Dr Tungwarara said.

“This devastating event claimed the lives of my brother and partner in development, Sir Wicknell Chivayo, his beloved wife, Mrs Lucy Chihayo, my dear friend Captain Soda, who served as the pilot, and other individuals on board.”

Dr Tungwarara said Sir Wicknell had made significant contributions to Zimbabwe’s business and economic empowerment landscape, describing him as a visionary investor and philanthropist.

“Sir Wicknell was a dynamic force within the Zimbabwean business landscape, a visionary investor, passionate philanthropist, and proud patriot whose contributions to economic empowerment left an indelible mark on our country,” he said.

“His vibrant spirit, bold leadership, and commitment to national progress will be sorely missed.”

The deaths have left families, friends and associates mourning the loss of the prominent businessman and other occupants of the helicopter.

Dr Tungwarara said the loss of the victims represented a major blow to those who had worked with them in various spheres.

“To lose such key figures in development alongside a cherished personal friend like Soda is a profound blow,” he said.

He expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and called for strength and comfort for those affected by the tragedy.

“During this moment of immense grief, I stand in solidarity with all the bereaved families, loved ones, and colleagues,” Dr Tungwarara said.

“We pray for divine strength, comfort, and peace for everyone carrying the weight of this tragedy. May the departed rest in eternal peace.”
