TUNISIA secured a morale-boosting 1-0 win over world champions France yesterday but still crashed out of the World Cup.
Australia’s 1-0 win over Denmark meant the Socceroos made it to the last 16 at the expense of the African side.
On a dramatic final day in the group, the Tunisians thought their spirited effort had not reaped the three points when Antoine Griezmann struck with the last kick of the game.
However, VAR intervened and the French forward’s effort was ruled out.
It could have meant the world for Tunisia had the Aussies not managed to win against Denmark, who finished bottom of Group D, with just one point from their three matches.
Ranked number 10 in the world, this was a very disappointing return for the Danes.
There was heartbreak for Tunisia, who gave everything, while the Australians exploded into delirious celebrations.
Tunisia will wonder what more they can do after victory over the French champions, who made nine changes to their starting XI, including keeping Kylian Mbappe on the bench.
The power hitters were later introduced but they could not change the state of the match as the Tunisians held on for a great victory.
With four points, the Tunisians will consider themselves unlucky to bow out of this World Cup at this stage of the tourney.
