Former Zimbabwe international Sean Ervine starred with bat and ball in Tuskers’ victory. Tuskers bowlers did a marvellous job in bowling out Mashonaland Eagles for 157 runs in 43.2 overs with Ervine picking up three wickets.
He then went on to top score with 45 runs batting at number three as the hosts lost three wickets on their way to winning the encounter, their second victory this year following their five wicket triumph over Southern Rocks at the same venue on Saturday.
After losing the toss and sent in to bat, Mashonaland Eagles lost their first wicket in the fourth over when wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva was trapped leg before wicket by fast bowler Glenn Querl for one run. The visitors added just one run before they were two down, Keegan Meth getting rid of Chamunorwa Chibhabha who was caught by Brian Chari.
Sikandar Raza was the highest run scorer for Eagles with 46 runs with Stuart Matsikenyeri the second best scorer with 42 runs.
Ervine collected three wickets for 31 runs in the seven overs he sent down, Querl and left arm spinner Dabengwa took two wickets each with one wicket apiece for Meth and off spinner John Nyumbu.
In their run chase, Tuskers lost their first wicket with 31 runs on board, Chari caught behind by Chakabva off Elton Chigumbura’s bowling.
Skipper Gavin Ewing and Sean Ervine put on 47 runs for the second wicket prior to Ewing falling to left arm spinner Raymond Price, caught by Matsikenyeri.
Sean Ervine was the last wicket to fall when Chibhabha had him snared by Taurai Muzarabani. This brought an end to an entertaining innings which contained five fours and a massive six off Price.
His younger brother Craig was second best with an unbeaten 42 runs and together with Charles Coventry who was unconquered on 22 runs saw Tuskers to a well deserved victory.
The two teams clash in a Twenty20 fixture at Queens this morning.
