Tuskers seek redemption

TUSKERS will be chasing redemption when they face defending champions Mega Market Mountaineers in a Logan Cup fixture starting this morning at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

After opening their 2025/26 campaign with a home defeat to Southern Rocks last week, Tuskers are eager to bounce back and set a positive tone for the remainder of the season.

Assistant coach and team manager Chris Mpofu said the team had taken several positives from that loss and believes they can build on them going forward.

“In as much as we want to win games, we have to be realistic about where we finished in previous seasons. We finished fourth or fifth. Yes, we’ve started this season poorly by not winning the opening game, but there are a lot of things we’re doing well as a team.

“I’m not really disappointed. As much as we want wins, there are many positives to take. There are things we’ve done well that we didn’t manage last season — for example, the fight we showed, especially from the lower order,” said Mpofu.

For player-assistant coach Brian Chari, this morning’s encounter presents an opportunity to put those lessons into practice.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to correct our mistakes and be ready to go again,” said Chari.
Tuskers have had a full week to prepare for the match, while Mountaineers sat out the opening round on a bye.

The defending champions will, however, be keen to begin their title defence strongly at the same venue where Tuskers stumbled last week.

Elsewhere, Rhinos — who drew against Eagles in their opening match — take on Southern Rocks at Kwekwe Sports Club.

Following the two Logan Cup fixtures, corresponding Pro50 Championship matches will be played next Tuesday at the same venues.

Zimbabwe’s 2025/26 domestic cricket season will feature back-to-back Logan Cup and Pro50 fixtures to ensure players gain maximum exposure across formats. All matches are open to the public free of charge.
