Twelve machete – wielding gang arrested in Mazowe

A 12 – machete – wielding gang that has been terrorising and robbing people at farms in and around Mazowe has been arrested.

Following their arrest, police recovered four machetes and five Colombian knives.

In a statement, national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest.

“On November 13, 2025, police in Mazowe arrested a machete-wielding gang in connection with a spate of robbery cases that occurred at Cress Farm, Storis Mine and Umsasa Farm between November 11 and 12, 2025,” he said.

“The suspects allegedly attacked various complainants before stealing a high beam search light, two cellphones and US$680. The arrest led to the recovery of four machetes and five Colombian knives.”

The suspects are Taka Gomo (29), Tafara Nyikadzino (27), Give us Bhangeni (22), Johnson Marufu (23), Witness Madzima (27), Obvious Karambakuhwa (27), Kudakwashe Chimanikire (23), Crispen Manyama (28), Nyasha Saka (30), Blessing Chirimamumba (22), Ronald Fositara (21) and Blessing Mabare (24).

Meanwhile, another machete-wielding gang reportedly attacked people and seriously injured some of them in unclear circumstances in Guruve and Hatcliffe in separate incidents.

Police are yet to issue a statement on some of these incidents.

In Guruve, there are reports that, since last month, several people have been attacked and seriously injured by these unknown assailants.

Reports have since been made to the police, who are now carrying out investigations. Meanwhile, in Hatcliffe, there are reports that there are three robbers who are moving around armed with a machete.

Over the weekend, the three suspects were captured on CCTV while attempting to rob a motorist of his vehicle, a Honda Fit.

The victim was parked in front of a house when the robbers struck at midnight. He managed to drive off and the three disappeared from the scene.

Residents and villagers in these areas have since called on the police to ensure that the assailants are brought to book to avoid such incidents.
