Twinning arrangement pays off for Mash Central

MASHONALAND Central Province has benefited from its twinning arrangements with South Korean province of Gyeongsangnam-do which has spawned a number of life transforming projects.

Projects that have been rolled out include the construction of semi-detached staff houses at Chinyani Clinic in Muzarabani and a community state-of-the-art centre at Chiveso in Bindura.

Said Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Monica Mavhunga: “The birth of the cooperation between Mashonaland Central and Gyeongsangnam-do has seen tremendous support through the establishment of community projects which have transformed the lives of our people.

“At Chiveso, Bindura, a state-of-the-art community centre is running several beneficiation programmes and the people there have fully appreciated the importance of community participation. So much support has been given to the refurbishment of existing health institutions. Chiveso, Glamorgan, Vonabo clinics and Bindura Hospital are some of the health institutions that have benefited.

“We are glad to note that the programme is expanding to cover other districts and that from each district one centre was selected to receive specialised basic equipment required for effective health delivery services of our people.”

Minister Mavhunga said staff accommodation at health centres has remained a major setback at most health centres in the province and called for other partners to come on board.

She said the province has a lot to learn from South Korea on how it implemented its robust devolved system of community development and governance.

“As a province, we are open to have corporate organisations from South Korea coming to Zimbabwe and set up shop in various economic areas across our eight administrative local authorities,” said Minister Mavhunga.

“We desire to strengthen research and development through linking our universities here in the province to the universities and colleges in South Korea to expand knowledge and skills exchange.

“I also want to applaud the efforts, commitment and co-operation of our local communities, traditional and political leadership who are taking up the responsibility of developing their own areas.”
