TWINS CONFERENCE IN DRC

Arron Nyamayaro

CO-PRESIDENTS of the Twins Association of Zimbabwe, Tendai Mayor and Farai Lawyer Katonha, are set to attend a conference focused on promoting the welfare for multiple births in the DRC.

The conference will jointly develop a plan focused on reducing socio-economic challenges faced by multiple births, including solutions to unlock funding for supporting their organisations.

A key objective of the conference will be to bridge cultural beliefs on multiple births and look at medical challenges faced by conjoined twins.

The conference will run under the theme ‘2023 Achievements and 2024 Roadmap in promoting Multiple Births Welfare’.

“We are to leave for DRC to meet other nations in addressing multiple birth challenges that include school dropouts as parents fail to raise money to cater their needs,” said Katonha.

“We will come up with a 2024 work plan and objectives to reduce socio-economic challenges faced by multiple births.

“A number of couples with multiple births have been relying on donations, hence the need to empower them through various projects.

“We have a number of twins and multiple births in Zimbabwe, hence the need to share with other nations since it is a global challenge.

“This conference is not fully funded so we want to thank individuals and organisations for making the trip a success in terms of air tickets. Accommodation and food are catered for.”
