POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a Cowdray Park resident who was stabbed to death during a robbery in 2021.
The suspects were identified as Bhekilanga Ndlovu (25) of Iminyela and Terrence Madera (25) of Mzilikazi. They were apprehended on January 31 this year after police received information on their whereabouts.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the arrests and said the duo had been on the run since the gruesome killing.
“Sometime in August 2021, the accused persons stabbed and killed Mncedisi Mtshayisa, a male adult aged 23 of Cowdray Park, during a robbery. They dumped his body in a sanitary lane along Third Avenue in Bulawayo,” she said.
“On 31 January 2026, police officers received information that the accused persons were at their places of residence. The police reacted swiftly and arrested the accused persons,” she said.
Insp Msebele commended members of the public for assisting investigators with critical information that led to the breakthrough.
“We appreciate members of the public for supplying information that led to the arrest of the accused persons. Community cooperation remains key in the fight against crime,” she said.
Insp Msebele warned criminals that evading arrest for years would not save them from justice.
“We also warn criminals that no matter how far you run away after committing crimes, the long arm of the law will catch up with you,” said Insp Msebele.
She said Mtshayisa was attacked at night while walking in the city and robbed of personal belongings before being fatally stabbed.
His body was discovered the following morning, dumped in a sanitary lane, triggering an intensive investigation.
The case had remained unsolved for years, with detectives pursuing several leads until fresh information pointed to the two suspects last month.
The accused persons are expected to appear in court facing murder charges.
Police reiterated their appeal for residents to continue working closely with law enforcement by reporting criminals and suspicious activities, saying the latest arrests demonstrated the value of community partnerships in keeping Bulawayo safe.
