ZIMBABWE Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested two Chinese men in connection with firearm-related incidents, one of which involved the shooting of a Zimbabwean at a mine.
In the first incident, a Chinese man was captured in a viral video pointing a gun at a Zimbabwean during a dispute at Bijour Mine in Gweru. The ZRP confirmed the arrest of both individuals involved.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Kholwani Dube was arrested for stabbing the Chinese men with an okapi knife following an altercation.
He said Dube (38) stabbed the Chinese man in the leg with an okapi knife during a labour dispute. In response, the Chinese men allegedly pointed a firearm at Dube.
“Police are investigating an assault and pointing of a firearm incident that occurred at Bijour Farm, Lower Gweru, Midlands Province, on 21 January 2025. Both Kholwani Dube and the Chinese national are facing criminal charges,” said Comm Nyathi.
In a separate incident, another Chinese was arrested for allegedly shooting a Zimbabwean man at Binyup 5 Mine in Filabusi. The victim, Mthahandazo Sibanda (20), was reportedly caught stealing gold ore when the Chinese shot him with a 9mm Derya pistol.
Police have since apprehended the suspect, and investigations into both cases are ongoing.
