TWO people died and six others were injured among them a one-year-old child when a vehicle they were travelling in burst a tyre and rammed into a large rock along the Bulawayo-Plumtree Road. The eight who were destined for Bulawayo were coming from a funeral at Brunapeg area in Mangwe District when the tragedy struck yesterday. The incident occurred at the 88-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Plumtree Road. Those who were injured were rushed to Plumtree District Hospital.

One of the survivors, Mrs Margaret Tshuma (63) of Richmond suburb in Bulawayo said the driver lost control of the vehicle when the tyre burst.
“A tyre of the vehicle we were travelling in burst and the car swerved across the road. It then overturned and then it rammed into a big rock and that is when the car came to a stop. The two women who were part of our group were thrown out of the car and they landed against the rock, leading to their death,” said

Mrs Tshuma.
She said all passengers had seat belts on except for the two who passed away.

Mrs Soneni Mahlangu who had relatives in the vehicle said most of the passengers were related and were coming from a funeral wake in Brunapeg.
