Two elderly men arrested for illegally selling State land

TWO senior citizens have been arrested for allegedly selling state land without authority.

Gideon Muputa (77) and Lovemore Hungwe (64) both from the Chiwundura area outside Gweru appeared before Gweru Provincial Magistrate Ms Beaulity Dube facing allegations of selling state late.

They were not asked to plea and were remanded out of custody to April 14.

It is the State case that Muputa and Hungwe were arrested by the police for failing to produce the required documents that gave them the authority to allocate gazetted farmland.

The circumstances are that from 2011 to January 17, 2024, the accused persons allegedly took the Umhlali farm in Chiwundura which they subdivided it to five hectare plots, and illegally allocated it to new owners.
