TWO Avakash International employees were arrested for failing to account for US$12 000 on Monday.
The Mt Pleasant-based company’s human resources manager, Takudzwa Kanengoni, reported Davidson Zowa, an accounts officer, and Ashley Mawarire, a driver, for alleged fraud.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said the company carried out a reconciliation of the money collected from its clients and discovered that US$12 000 was missing.
“Complainant discovered that the driver used to collect money from their customers and connived with the accounts officer, who would clear the customers’ debt from the company system.
“After clearing the customers’ debts, the accounts officer would not update the cash book.
“The finance manager asked the accounts officer to clarify the issue and he confessed that he was working with the driver to collect money and clear customers’ debts from the system for their own benefit,” said Insp Chakanza.
Nothing was recovered.
