church conference in Centenary on Saturday morning.
The other nine came from the same suburb and most from the same street. They were spread across another six families.
Police yesterday said one more person died after being transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital.
The passengers were part of a group from the African Apostolic Church led by Bishop Paul Mwazha.
Sixteen people were injured in the accident along the Harare-Concession Road.
EARLIER REPORT
Police last night said the bus had 36 passengers.
Said deputy chief police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka: “I can confirm that there are family members among the dead and they are all from Hatcliffe. They were going to a church service in Centenary.”
Police identified the deceased as Richard (33), Stanley (36), Jonathan (51), Rachel (1), David (7) and Farai (8) from the Madanhi family while the Nhau family lost Mercy (32), Anesu (6), Tafadzwa (37) and Panashe (3).
The others have been identified as the driver Paul Nechirowe (29), Kay Nembwe (34), Tichaedza Chigenje (33), Milka Nhembwe (8), Rufaro Buraki (4), Kudakwashe Chimwendo (age not given) and Gracious Jakachira (25).
Chief Supt Mandipaka said police had not yet identified the last victim who is a toddler.
He said some of the injured had been treated and discharged while others were still receiving treatment at Mvurwi Hospital.
The accident has left the Hatcliffe community in a cloud of sorrow.
Edson Madanhi (26), who lost nine of his family members, was still in a state of disbelief.
“The situation is catastrophic. I cannot believe this has happened to me. I’m left with my three-year-old niece who is still in a critical condition in hospital. She will grow up without parents and it is all too unbearable,” he said.
Most of the victims lived in the same road while others were closely related.
Mr Tendai Nhau, who lost four family members including his brother, said the loss was tortuous.
“My brother left his two daughters, who are doing Grade 2 and 5 respectively. I just pray the family rests in peace and I hope I will be able to take proper care of the children,” he said.
A church member, Mr Albert Madambi, who represented the Jakachira family, said the accident was a test of strength for their church.
“We all knew Gracious to be a loyal friend and supportive brother at church and his demise has come as a blow to our church. The church prays for all the families that they may gather strength in the Lord and prevail through this challenge,” he said.
