Goromonzi villagers retrieved two bodies of farm workers on Saturday, who were trapped under Old Timer B Mine’s disused shaft.

It is reported that Kundai Jose (25) and Richard Kamuchoriro hatched a plan to steal gold from their employer, Mr Gerald Chirau of Chisipite, Harare.

The two informed their workmate Onesimo Mutero (21), who did not get into the shaft.

At around 2100hrs, Mutero felt some vibrations and rushed to the mining shaft where he heard a sound showing it was collapsing.

He called out Jose and Kamuchoriro, but there was no response.

Mutero then reported the incident to Mr Chirau who informed the police at Acturus Base.

Mr Chirau hired an excavator the following day, but his efforts to rescue Jose and Kamuchoriro failed.

Villagers then combined efforts on Saturday and managed to retrieve the two’s bodies from the shaft.
