TWO men from Nketa suburb in Bulawayo summoned courage and apprehended an armed robber who was part of the gang that raided a business man’s home before allegedly robbing the family of US$3800, R600 and a cellphone.
A source close to the incident alleged that Thomas Dube and his accomplices were armed with a pistol, pellet gun, screwdriver and an iron bar. They arrived at Tafireyi Tapiwanashe’s home in Nketa suburb at around 3AM last Sunday. They used an iron bar to open the main door and headed straight to the bedroom where Tafireyi was sleeping with his wife.
“The couple was awakened by the banging door. They found Tafireyi awake and pointed a gun straight to his face threatening to shoot him if he screamed. After that they demanded cash,” said the source.
Tafireyi’s wife surrendered US$3800, R 6000 and a cellphone. They were not done yet as they headed to other rooms and that was when things turned for the worst for Dube.
“Tafireyi’s two male relatives grabbed Dube after he entered their room, his accomplice who was about to enter the room fled as he heard commotion. Dube stabbed one of the man but he was eventually subdued and tied with a rope,” said the source.
The incident was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Dube.
Police from Tshabalala and CID Homicide attended the scene. Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“We confirm the incident and investigations are in progress. We are also appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the Dube’s accomplices. Anyone with information may contact any nearest police station,” he said.
