TWO Harare men were in the dock yesterday on murder and attempted murder charges.

Brian Nyawanza and Fungai Mutandwa appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with the murder of an Epworth who had just left a pub.

The court heard that on Christmas Day last year, the now deceased Peter Mbudzi was walking home from Chiremba Shops with his friends, Tichaona Magarasadza and Munyaradzi Murumbika. Nyawanza and Mutandwa ran past them, and when they got to Chiremba turn off, Murumbika was the first to cross the road while his friends followed behind.

They got onto a footpath and after a few metres, Mbudzi and Magarasadza were struck on the back of their heads with stones.

They fell and the duo searched their pockets and stole US$2 from Mbudzi’s pocket and a cellphone.

The duo left the two for dead and followed Murumbika, but could not catch up with him.

Magarasadza screamed for help and was assisted by two good Samaritans, who took them to Chitungwiza Hospital.  Mbudzi was pronounced dead upon arrival.
