TWO men were seriously injured after being struck by trains in separate incidents in Figtree and Entumbane on Monday.
National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) spokesperson Andrew Kunambura confirmed the incidents, saying both men were admitted to hospital.
“In the first incident, a man was struck at Figtree at 0115 hours. The second incident occurred near Ntabeni Primary School in Entumbane suburb at 1650 hours,” he said.
Mr Kunambura urged members of the public to stay clear of railway tracks to avoid being struck by trains.
“The NRZ wishes the two men a speedy recovery and urges people to stay clear of railway tracks to avoid being hit by trains,” he said.
The incidents come amid a number of accidents involving trains recorded this year.
Members of the public often use railway tracks as walking routes, while some also conduct physical exercises along the tracks.
Mr Kunambura warned that such activities were dangerous, particularly for people wearing headphones, as they may fail to hear approaching trains.
He urged the public to exercise caution and avoid using railway tracks for walking or exercising.
