TWO people died including the driver, one on the spot while 10 others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned at the 15km peg along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road. The accident, which was confirmed by Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero, happened on Monday at about 2pm.
Insp Zhanero said the bodies were taken to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary while the injured passengers were rushed to the same hospital where their condition is said to be stable.
“I can confirm the death of two people in an accident involving a Toyota Noah. The driver of the vehicle also died,” said Insp Zhanero.
He said the vehicle was from Masvingo with 12 passengers, including the driver, on board when tragedy struck.
The police spokesperson said on reaching the 15km peg, the vehicle burst its right rear tyre.
“After the tyre burst, the driver lost control and it veered off the road, overturned and rolled several times. One person died on the spot while the driver died on admission to Masvingo General Hospital,” said Insp Zhanero.
