TWO people died on the spot, while seven others were seriously injured when a Rusape-bound pirate taxi was involving in an accident last Saturday.
The accident occurred at the 35km peg along the Rusape-Nyanga Road when the blue Lucida station wagon belonging to Rusape provincial magistrate, Patience Madondo, veered off the road and overturned several times.
Deputy Manicaland police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, said the vehicle, which was being driven by Togarasei Chiroore, overturned after he lost control.
“The accident occurred around 1pm. The vehicle belonging to Madondo and driven by Chiroore rolled several times after the driver lost control.
“Two people were killed, while seven others sustained serious injuries.
“The injured are admitted at Rusape General Hospital,” he said.
Police identified the deceased as Philip Matiye from Rusape and Tobaiwa Mutema, a police Assistant Inspector based in Nyanga.
Asst Insp Chananda warned drivers to observe speed limits on the highways and adhere to road rules.
