Two killed in hit and run accidents

POLICE in Kwekwe are handling two cases in which two people died in separate hit and run accidents in the mining town.

In the first incident, on 15 October, an unknown man died upon admission at hospital after being hit by a motor vehicle which did not stop.

According to Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the incident occurred around 730PM in the Kwekwe Central Business District.

“The unknown adult who was clad in blue jeans and black t-shirt was walking along 6th Street, Kwekwe CBD. He was hit by an unknown motor vehicle just opposite Blue-Tech Service Station and fell on the tarmac. The vehicle did not stop,” said Inspector Mahoko.

He was rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon admission.

In the second incident, on 17 October around 930PM, a 26 year old man died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle along Kwekwe-Gokwe road.

“Mandla Moyo is said to have been walking along the Kwekwe-Gokwe road when he was hit by an unknown motor vehicle at the 44 kilometre peg. He died on the spot and the driver did not stop,” said Inspector Mahoko.

The body of the deceased was ferried to Kwekwe General Hospital.

“We appeal to road users to put on bright clothes or reflectors to increase their visibility when travelling at night. Those who have helpful information on the two cases may approach their nearest police stations,” said Inspector Mahoko.
