Two men, boy (12) rob taxi driver

A 12-year-old Harare boy and his two accomplices, who are both adults, allegedly robbed a taxi driver of his vehicle and valuables worth $4 000 after they hired his taxi from a local hotel last Tuesday.

The three suspects are yet to be identified while the vehicle, a Toyota Raum, is yet to be recovered.

Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said investigations were still in progress.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of theft of a motor vehicle which occurred in Eastlea, Harare on June 2, 2015.

“A 30-year-old taxi driver was hired by two unknown male adults and a 12-year-boy from Holiday Inn to Eastlea at around 22:40 hours,” she said.

She said after reaching their destination, the taxi driver was ordered to stop so that the suspects would disembark.

“Suddenly one of the suspects grabbed the complainant by the neck and pointed a knife at him while the boy searched him. They stole property and victim’s motor vehicle all valued at US$4000,” said Snr Asst com Charamba.

“Police are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the culprits or recovery of a Toyota Raum, silver in colour, registration number ACN 1852.”

In another incident, a 51-year-old businessman lost property worth $329 to three armed robbers who were masquerading as policemen in the city on Tuesday night.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the businessman was approached by the three robbers, one of them armed with an FN Rifle alleging that they were police officers investigating a case.

“They ordered the victim to open the door of the shop. After opening the door, the three suspects pointed a firearm to the victim before robbing him of his property valued at US$329,” she said.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said no arrests have been made and they were hunting down the suspects.
