TWO men from Bulawayo’s Njube suburb have been arrested for allegedly robbing a man of US$95 after assaulting him.
Africa Nkiwane (40) and Brian Sibanda (28) yesterday appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga facing robbery charges.
They were remanded in custody to July 15 pending trial.
Prosecuting, Ms Audrey Kufandikanwe told the court that on May 10 at around 10pm, the complainant, Mr Hillary Dhlamini (31), was drinking beer at Umhlambi Beer Garden in Njube.
He said when Mr Dhlamini left the bar heading for home, the two accused allegedly followed him and caught up with him near a stream in the J Square area of Njube.
“They produced a sharp object and stabbed Mr Dhlamini on his right ear, causing him to fall to the ground.
“One of the accused then bit him on the chest and thereafter the accused took turns to assault him,” said Ms Kufandikanwe.
The court heard that the accused then searched Mr Dhlamini and stole his wallet, which contained US$95 and his national identity card.
A passer-by who witnessed the attack identified the suspects and shouted out their names, prompting the pair to flee the scene, leaving Mr Dhlamini unconscious.
The witness called for an ambulance which rushed Mr Dhlamini to Mpilo Central Hospital.
