TWO Nkulumane man, Wellington Sibanda (29) and Ottis Mpofu (26), have been arrested for stealing a vehicle valued US$3000.
In a statement, Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube said detectives from the Vehicle Theft Squad, arrested the two man after they were given a tipoff by members of the public.
“To the effect Nhlalwenhle Ndlovu of Emakhandeni, Bulawayo was in custody of suspected stolen engine that was affixed on a Honda Fit. Upon checking the said engine number using the Central Vehicle Registry mobile database, it indicated that it belonged to the stolen motor vehicle that we were looking for,” said Insp Ncube.
The police spokesperson revealed that the vehicle was stolen when, on 28 September 2021, the owner of the vehicle aged 32 years of Nketa 7, was driving a white Honda Fit, at Nketa 6 garage where he picked the two accused persons who requested to be dropped at Total garage in Mpopoma.
“Sibanda and Mpofu attacked the complainant, grabbed him by the neck and pointed a knife at him while ordering him to remain silent. They sprayed an unknown liquid in his eyes blinding him in the process.
“They pulled the complainant to the back seat and took control of the motor vehicle and drove along Kelvin Road, Bulawayo. On the way, they searched him and took his 100 rands and cell phone and then dumped him at corner kelvin Road and Graphite opposite Grills abattoir, Bulawayo,” said Insp Ncube.
The police spokesperson, following investigations and with the assistance of the public they managed to effect the at corner Nketa drive and Kelvin Road in Bulawayo.
