ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPSC) Commissioner-General Retired Major-General Pazadzayi Zimondi has confirmed and signed dismissal letters of two procurement officers fired for defrauding the organisation of more than $500 000.
Samson Samson and Isaac Mugayaka were provisionally fired in August by ZPSC Matabeleland on the provision that Rt Maj-Gen Zimondi approves their dismissals. The two procurement officers were dismissed for tender splitting, overpricing and deceiving the procurement board, prejudicing the institution of more than $500 000.

In addition, more than $200 000 was unaccounted for due to non-delivered goods, a ZPSC internal audit report revealed.

“The commissioner-general having perused the record of proceedings in respect of each member, confirmed the sentence imposed against each member by the trial board. Therefore, in terms of section 17 (a) of the Prisons (staff appointment and discharge) regulations both Mugayaka and Samson have been dismissed from the service with effect from 2 October 2014,” said Rtd Maj-Gen Zimondi.

Samson and Mugayaka were also ordered to vacate their residential premises at Khami Prisons.

However, Mugayaka is married to a prison officer.
