Sustainable and affordable boarding facilities for St Jude Mazhe High School and Masilahove Secondary School have been constructed by the Ministry of Health and Child Care through the National AIDS Council in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme.
Commissioning the facilities in Zhombe, Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Owen Ncube said the facilities resonated with the Second Republic’s socio-economic transformational agenda under the able and visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa.
The agenda sought to enhance provision of accessible, quality and affordable services that advance the aspirations of vulnerable populations, particularly girls.
“The construction of the boarding facilities underscores the people-centred and proactive efforts of the listening leadership of the Second Republic in leveraging on local initiatives and resources to address critical needs of communities,” he said.
The locally initiated boarding facilities are complete with boreholes, fencing and solar electrification marking a remarkable achievement with profound impact on 95-95-95 HIV testing treatment and viral suppression targets.
“I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the National Aids Council, the United Nations Development Programme and all stakeholders in making this project a reality. Together, we commit ourselves to advance and safeguard a brighter future for our youths in the Midlands Province and our beloved country Zimbabwe,” he said.
Minister Ncube said the boarding facilities were not just physical structures, but represent the unwavering determination by the New Dispensation to ensure every child, regardless of circumstances, had access to quality education and a conducive environment to advance their career prospects.
The Second Republic has introduced Education 5.0 that focuses on innovation and industrialisation to empower learners.
“The coming in of the Second Republic has also resulted in the promotion of the girl child career development with complementary support from Her Excellency the First Lady Dr A Mnangagwa’s career guidance, nhanga, drug and substance abuse mitigation and She-tech programmes,” he said.
Minister Ncube said health support to communities had also been strengthened through construction of new clinics, equipment and provision of service vehicles.
He warned learners against indulging in drug and substance abuse which he said threatened their physical and mental health and career prospects.
