A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to an effective two years in prison for stabbing his neighbour several times during a dispute over an unpaid debt.
Ephraim Nkomo was convicted of attempted murder by Gwanda regional magistrate Mrs Sithembiso Ndebele after pleading not guilty to the charge.
He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, with one year suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during that period, leaving him with an effective two-year jail term.
Prosecuting, Mr Ngonidzashe Shumba said the incident occurred on February 17 this year.
“On the 17 February 2026, at around 9PM, the victim and the accused were on their way home from Nkaba Business Centre in Filabusi where they were drinking beer. Along the way they had a dispute over an unpaid debt.
“The accused person produced an identified knife, he stabbed the Dube on both hands, once on the stomach and once on the thigh. Dube was taken to Z.R.P Filabusi where he reported the matter before being referred to Filabusi District Hospital for treatment and medical report compilation,” he said.
The victim, Mr Francis Dube, sustained injuries to both hands, the stomach and the thigh during the attack.
