A Harare man was sentenced to two years imprisonment effective for scalding his wife with hot water following a dispute.
Trust Simango, 30, was convicted of attempted murder after a full trial by Harare magistrate Solomon Jenya.
He was sentenced to three years, and one year was suspended on condition that he doesn’t commit a similar offence in the next five years.
The court heard that on April 8, Simango returned home from work and asked his 10-year-old daughter where her mother was.
She told him that her mom was in their bedroom.
Simango suddenly became aggressive and dragged his wife out of bed and started assaulting her.
He then went to the kitchen and took a teapot, with boiling water, and poured it on her stomach and legs.
He then threatened to kill her.
The wife sustained serious burns on her stomach, thighs and private parts.
The daughter testified as a State witness.
She told the court that she saw her father taking the kettle and pouring boiling water on her mother.
She told the court that after burning her mother, her father pushed the stove onto the floor.
This was meant to make it appear as if his wife had been burnt by mistake.
