THE United Arab Emirates Government has donated medical supplies worth more than US$620 000 to the Government of Zimbabwe as the two countries continue to enjoy cordial relations.
The donation comprised 34 tonnes of essential medical supplies, including 74 ICU ventilators, which are critical for managing life-threatening respiratory conditions.
The Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Sleiman Kwidini, received the donation yesterday on behalf of the Government, while the UAE was represented by its Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jassim Mohammed Al Qasimi.
Speaking at the official handover ceremony, which was held at the NatPharm Warehouse in Harare, Mr Kwidini described the donation of medical supplies as a timely intervention.
“Today is not simply a handover ceremony — it is a powerful expression of solidarity and a reaffirmation of the enduring friendship and shared values between Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates.
“The act reflects a growing partnership built on mutual respect, shared aspirations, and a commitment to improve lives.”
Mr Kwidini said the consignment complements Government efforts of achieving universal health access.
“This consignment is valued at US$623 737 and includes: hypodermic 23G needles worth US$49 387; syringes (2/3 ml) worth US$2 584; syringes (1 ml) worth US$449 249; and ICU ventilators valued at US$122 515.
“These are not just figures on paper — these are life-saving tools. They represent our ability to respond more effectively to emergencies, reduce mortality, and provide quality care to the people of Zimbabwe, especially in our rural and underserved communities.”
Under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Minister Kwidini said the UAE continues to demonstrate a strong global commitment to humanitarian assistance, sustainable development, and public health.
He said the donation symbolised something greater — the growing partnership between Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates.
“The UAE is now Zimbabwe’s second-largest trading partner, accounting for nearly 50 percent of our export receipts in April 2025 alone,” said Deputy Minister Kwidini.
Ambassador Qasimi described the initiative as part of the strong and brotherly ties between the UAE and Zimbabwe, reflecting the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership, which places humanitarian work at the forefront.
“The UAE believes that solidarity and co-operation between nations is the best path to overcoming health and humanitarian challenges,” he said.
The Ambassador also commended the Government of Zimbabwe for its open door policy.
