ZANU PF remains committed to implementing people-centred projects, as the self-serving opposition has caused significant suffering for the electorate, the ruling party’s Harare Provincial Political Commissar, Cde Voyage Dambuza has said.

He made the remarks whilst addressing a well-attended rally at Booster Grounds in Epworth, Harare, to moblise support for the party’s candidate for Ward 6, Cde Civilised Bushe.

The local authority seat became vacant following the sentencing of CCC councillor Nobody Makoni to 40 months in prison by the Harare Magistrates’ Court for criminal abuse of duty.

The by-elections are scheduled for August 2, as the ruling party seeks to reclaim the local authority seat that has been under opposition control since 2000.

In his remarks, Cde Dambuza emphasised that ZANU PF plans to “penetrate opposition strongholds through its development initiatives spearheaded by President Mnangagwa”.

Cde Dambuza announced that 15 solar-powered boreholes are being drilled in Ward 6 to ensure access to clean water for all residents.

“Additionally, road rehabilitation efforts are underway to improve connectivity in the area. Epworth is lagging in development due to mismanagement by the opposition CCC-led council. We want to transform the lives of the people of Epworth through President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.

Residents expressed satisfaction with the developmental projects initiated under the Second Republic.

Mr Edmore Sigauke, a Ward 6 resident since 1996, praised President Mnangagwa for the boreholes, stating:  “We were relying on shallow water sources that posed health risks. We are grateful for the Government’s intervention and will vote in numbers to ensure ZANU PF wins the vacant local authority seat.”

Mrs Roseline Chikari from Ward 6 shared her enthusiasm for the ongoing developmental projects, promising to vote for ZANU PF to secure a decisive victory for the party.

In his address, the ruling party’s candidate for Ward 6, Cde Bushe, expressed confidence in winning the seat from the opposition.

“We are making maximum efforts to provide clean water, roads, and health centres. The electorate is tired of empty promises from the opposition.”
