BRITISH reggae-pop outfit UB40, featuring Ali Campbell, are scheduled to perform at Old Hararians Sports Club on Africa Day.
The super group will perform at an open space bringing with them their smash hits such as “Red Red Wine”, “Kingston Town” and “Homely Girl”.
Speaking to H-Metro, the event organiser, Walter Wanyanya, said:
“We decided to bring UB40, featuring Ali Campbell, because the band has a rich history with Zimbabwe and we have a lot of fans here who love their music.
“All the relevant paperwork has been done with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, immigration and others.
“Tickets sales are moving swiftly and we are confident that it will be a sold-out show.”
Wanyanya added: “I think the relevant authorities were notified and engaged through the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.
“Action was taken to make sure we don’t have security-related issues and I believe that’s a thing of the past.
“Sound and stage is supplied by Divine Concert Sound, whom we have worked with in the past at other events.
“We have plans for the band to work with our local acts and we are looking forward to a good outcome from the interactions they will have with our artists while in Zimbabwe.
“Dates and venue for the press conference will be announced in due course,” he said.
It’s a huge year for the super group who will be marking 45 years in the business in which they rose to the very top.
They will have a US Tour, as part of the celebrations, in which they will be joined by Inner Circle, Third World and Big Mountain.
“In celebration of UB40’s 45th Anniversary, the band announces their upcoming UB45 US summer tour, kicking off on Independence Day, July 4, in Camden, New Jersey.”
They will also have a Homecoming Show in Birmingham, England, on August 27 where they will be joined by Soul II Soul.
