adminKampala. — Micho Sredojevic, the Uganda Cranes coach, has included midfielder Hassan Wasswa and striker Tony Odur on the squad currently on residential training in Kampala ahead of the Africa Nations Championship. The tournament for home-based players kicks off on January 11 in South Africa, with Uganda facing Burkina Faso in Cape Town the following day.
Both Wasswa and Odur were involved in the CHAN qualifying team that knocked out Tanzania 4-1 on aggregate but had initially been left out of the squad because they were away in Vietnam in pursuit of greener pastures.
Their call-up comes barely two days after Micho announced the inclusion of SC Victoria University goalkeeper Ali Kimera after the Serbian felt unconvinced by the level of competition in camp.
The inclusion of Waswa, who ironically reportedly signed a two-year-deal with a Vietnamese side when he quit KCCA under mysterious circumstances two months ago, and KCCA forward Odur, brings the number of the squad to 28 players.
“(When you) Look on tactical view you need such players into the squad,” said Micho on Odur’s inclusion, adding, “Waswa has got experience as well as leadership skills both off and on pitch.
“Remember we’re looking at grooming but also we need some experienced figures at certain level to show those uncapped ones what to do.”
Fufa are, however, confident Wasswa is still a KCCA player and thus qualifies to represent the country in CHAN. KCCA have never officially released Wasswa, who captained the team as the Cranes beat Tanzania to qualify for the tournament. — SuperSport.com
