ONE of Uganda’s most celebrated comedians, Dr Hillary Okello, is set to headline the DillanChiotaLive is UNBOTHERED Special Edition comedy show in Harare later this month, in what organisers say marks a growing wave of collaboration within Africa’s comedy industry.

The special edition forms part of the flagship DillanChiotaLive comedy series, created by Zimbabwean comedian Dillan Chiota, which explores storytelling drawn from everyday life experiences, retold through humour.

Okello said returning to Zimbabwe always feels like coming home, praising local audiences for their energy and support.

“Coming back to Zimbabwe feels like returning to friends. The energy, the laughter, and the support I’ve received from audiences there have always been incredible. I’m excited to be back, share some new stories, and have a great time with everyone,” said Okello.

He also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with Chiota on the upcoming show.
“I’m also glad that Dillan will be able to invite me onto his platform, allowing us to collaborate more as African creatives,” he said.

Following a successful sold-out debut at the Hyatt Regency in Harare, the DillanChiotaLive is UNBOTHERED series is now evolving into a recurring comedy platform aimed at strengthening ties among African comedians while expanding the continent’s comedy circuit.

Chiota said public response to the special edition has been overwhelming, with early ticket batches selling out and strong demand continuing ahead of the show.

“The response from the public has been overwhelming. Early Bird tickets have officially sold out, and more than 300 tickets have already been purchased, reflecting the strong anticipation surrounding the event,” said Chiota.

The Harare edition is expected to be the biggest yet, featuring a mix of regional and local talent, including Chipenzi, Ckanyiso, Lebohang, and Mbongeni, alongside performances from Chiota and Okello.

Okello, in a few years, has gone from administering medicine to administering laughter on stages all over the continent.
