THE mother of UK-based reggae/dancehall artist, Fyah Bantu, is happy after witnessing her son recover from cancer.

Around this time last year, Spiwe Mateuro was devastated as she witnessed her son fighting for his life in hospital.

“It was a tough and trying time for me to see my son in the state he was.

“I am sure it is the same for any mother and I am glad that exactly a year later God has answered my prayers.

“We couldn’t celebrate his birthday last year but this year we have been afforded the opportunity and to me and the family, it means so much.

“We thank God for his life and giving him a chance to live.

“As a mother I can not find words that can express how much I feel just to have him alive and getting back to good health,” she said.

Fyah Bantu, an artist and music promoter, celebrates turning 36 tomorrow.

He has been making waves with his recent Yakope riddim project that seeks to uplift and  give a voice to new voices.

He revealed his passion for music has helped him not to focus too much on his illness.

He said music has brought healing and fulfilment to his life.
