United Kingdom based musician Obert Mazivisa believes Zimbabwe has the best gospel musicians who meet international standards.
Mazivisa said the way people in the United Kingdom love Zimbabwean gospel shows that the country has got talent.“The way people out there appreciate Zimbabwean gospel shows that the country has talented people and the likes of Zimpraise, Charles Charamba and Serbastain Magacha have got large followings there,” said Mazivisa.
The Trumpet Echoes leader said he had come back to perform at a church conference. On the New Year ’s Day he made a surprise appearance at the Zimpraise show complimenting the choral group with his energetic dances.
Born in Gokwe the musician did his secondary and primary school at Nyanhara before he started his musical career in 2001. Though he is based in the foreign land he believes there is a lot to do for his country.
“I record my staff there but marketing and distribution is done by Metro Studios back home,” said Maziwisa.
His latest album “Come Along” was marketed and distributed here in Zimbabwe though it is still to make an impact. The album which is a mixture of Shona and English songs and carries eleven tracks.
“The videos we have were taken from our live performances and we are happy with the reception they are getting here and abroad,” he said.
Meanwhile a new compilation album titled “Pungwe Session Vol 1” featuring some of the talented Zimbabwean hip-hop artistes will be launched at the Old Hararians this Saturday.
Featured on the album are Junior Brown whose track “Phillip Chiyangwa” is already receiving heavy rotation on most radio stations and MC Chita who recently returned from Jamaica. The album was produced by United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean Rymez whose aim is to take local music on the international scene.
“There is so much talent in Zimbabwe but the only problem is that it is not getting any international recognition which it truly deserves.
So through quality productions and some of the contacts that is have I hope Zimbabwean music is on its way up,” Rymez said.
