UMAHLEKISA Khonapho Khonapho comedy show at the Hope Centre in Bulawayo on Saturday witnessed a full house with an improvement on the performances from the four comedians, with Clive Chigubhu bringing the house down.

The show saw Chigubhu headlining with Lady D and HO supporting. Ntando Van Moyo was the director of ceremonies.

Chigubhu, at his usual best with his theatrics, got a standing ovation when he finished, showing why he is an award-winning comic. His jokes centred on gays, umbobobo and prostitution.

Lady D who said she was afraid of performing in bars, looked comfortable when she was on stage and interacted with the crowd. She joked about being a single mother and how church members despised them (single mothers) and all the trials and tribulations associated with single-motherhood.

HO also did well with his mellow tones, speaking frankly about poverty, lies and deception in relationships and life in the townships.

Director of Umahlekisa, Van Moyo said they were pleased with the full house showing that more people are slowly appreciating comedy.

“The crowd that’s here shows that there’s an appreciation for comedy by people. At first I thought it was going to be a slow night but after sometime the place was full. I believe that our performances and delivery of our jokes has improved,” said Van Moyo.

He said they wanted to use Umahlekisa to launch other comedians.

“We groom some comedians so that they can take over when we retire. That’s why you saw the three comedians who came on before the main acts. They’re up and coming comedians who want to make it,” said Van Moyo.

Meanwhile, across town at Metropolis Pub and Grill, Chocolate and the Tizz from Harare had a show-stopping performance as they stripped off until they were completely naked.

The four strippers had promised to go all out when they started their set and they made good their promise.

One of the dancers inserted a cider bottle into her private parts with legs spread. She then gyrated much to the delight of the crowd.

Male patrons showered the strippers with dollar notes for them to take off their bras and panties. They obliged after collecting the money.

The show ended at around 4AM.
