Buffalo Souljah, Burna Boy beef simmers

From Melissa Mpofu in Harare
Dancehall artistes, Buffalo Souljah and Nigeria’s Burna Boy who were involved in a brawl early this year seem to have failed to resolve their differences.

They clashed in South Africa after Burna Boy confronted Buffalo Souljah, accusing him of talking ill behind his back during Da L.E.S’s annual All White party held in January. The confrontation turned nasty as Burna Boy humiliated Buffalo Souljah, a South Africa-based Zimbabwean artiste, forcing security details to intervene.

They have not spoken ever since and now, Burna Boy claims not to know Buffalo Souljah. Questioned on their scuffle, Burna Boy who was in Harare for a show at the exquisite Pablo’z night club, professed ignorance, insisting he had no idea who Buffalo Souljah was.

“Who’s Buffalo Souljah? I don’t know him,” said Burna Boy after his performance yesterday.

Buffalo Souljah who had vowed to disrupt Burna Boy’s shows in South Africa till the Nigerian publicly apologises, said things were still sour between the two adding that they do not talk to each other.

Riding on the success of his collaboration with South Africa’s AKA, JR and Da L.E.S on hit track – All eyes on me, Burna Boy seemed not deterred by squabbles in the music industry.

“The music industry is very political and there’s nothing much anyone can do about it,” he said.

The artiste who launched his career in 2010 advised up-and-coming artistes to consider collaborating with established artistes to promote their music.

“Collaborations expose you to different places and different artistes.

“It’s always good especially when those you’re collaborating with have a huge fan base because those fans become your fans. But if they don’t have a fan base, then that collaboration will not really be worth it,” Burna Boy said.

The artiste who wowed youthful fans at Pablo’z said he enjoyed his stay in the country and was looking forward to another show here.
