After officially launching his 11th studio album Umjolo in July, seasoned Marabi and Afro Jazz maestro Jeys Marabini is set to take the album to the people as he is billed to re-launch it live at a local hotel in Bulawayo on October 3.

The 10-track album, which features songs such as Ngezama Lobolo, Themba Lami Likuwe, Yini Lo Mona, Mazwane, Thul’ Ulalele, Nomakanjan, Inkemenkeme, Ulal’ Ephenduka, We Mnano Muntu, and the title track Umjolo, is more than good music — it is a reflection of Marabini’s journey, emotions, and cultural roots.
Marabini said when the album was released, his fans called on him to stage a live show, hence he has crafted the upcoming event as a way of giving people what they want.

“I released this album in July, and it has been enjoying a massive airplay on local radio stations as well as outside the country. This is a sign that people really appreciate my craft, and I am humbled.

“As a way of listening to their call, I have decided to stage a show at Palace Hotel, where I will perform the entire new album. I will also belt out some of my old songs because I will be having the entire night to do so,” said Marabini.

Digging deep into Umjolo album, Marabini said to capture a diverse sound palette, he had to record the project across four studios: Loud Records, Just Percy Studios, Elephant Head Studios and P3 Studios.

“This album is a celebration. It’s an intricate blend of my life experiences – moments of love, unity, peace and respect for culture that shape us all.

“Each track is meant to take listeners on a journey through life’s highs and lows, touching on themes such as love, loyalty, hope, disappointment and faith,” he said.

The night for the live launch of the album promises to be exciting as Marabini said he will perform alongside young creatives whom he collaborated with on the project.

Some of these gems are drummer Erustus Nleya, Just Percy, Obey Mudiwa, Master H (bass guitar), Rodwell Roda, Thomas Madurure (lead guitar), Oktopas (keys), Simba (trumpet), Benjamin (saxophone), Nash (trampoline), Bonginkosi (percussion) and backing vocalists Brian Awa, Khulekani and Tiae.

Also joining Marabini on stage will be Tshibilika music’s duo of Amathonga Amahle of the Soft Life fame, as well as DJs Keitho, Ayaxx and Flex.
