YOUTHS in Umzingwane District are harnessing a raft of empowerment opportunities to drive self-development, with tangible results already being recorded in Ward 1, marking a new dawn for rural economic participation.
The young people, once plagued by idleness and vulnerability to substance abuse, are now actively engaged in crop farming, poultry production, and mining safety training, transforming their lives while contributing to the local economy.
The Office of the Member of Parliament for Umzingwane Constituency and Deputy Minister of Defence, Brig-Gen (Rtd) Levi Mayihlome, has reported significant progress following sustained engagements with key mining houses and agricultural training institutions.
Through collaboration with Hamara Mine, youths have undergone training in crop farming and poultry production at Matobo, while How Mine has committed to equipping them with occupational health and safety skills for safe participation in the mining sector.
The impact is already visible through the Ntshamathe Nutrition Garden (LINA Project) and an emerging poultry enterprise, where many youths are now generating income and steering their own development.
In a statement, Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mayihlome said.
“The Office of Hon. Brig-Gen (Rtd) Levi Mayihlome, Member of Parliament for Umzingwane Constituency and Deputy Minister of Defence, is pleased to report tangible progress on youth empowerment initiatives in Ward 1, under the leadership of Cllr Tshuma and Secretary for Youth Affairs, Ms Qhelile Ndlovu. These initiatives form part of the Hon. Member’s broader agenda to advance sustainable, community-driven development across Umzingwane Constituency.”
He commended Ward 1 leadership and the youth for embracing the momentum, reaffirming his commitment to President Mnangagwa’s vision that development must be owned by, and benefit, local communities, leaving no one behind as the nation marches towards Vision 2030.
