UNITED Nations’ Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s Special Advisor for Sport, Development and Peace, Wilfried Lemke is heading to Zimbabwe next month to attend the third edition of the National Sports Convention set for Harare.
A local sports marketing consultancy ZScore are hosting the National Sports Convention in conjunction with the Bindura University of Science Education’s National Sports Academy, the Sports Commission and the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee.
ZScore chief executive Peter Mawere said Lemke is scheduled to be one of the key speakers at the three-day conference running from July 15 to 17 at the Rainbow Towers.
“The main idea of the conference is to bring together the coaches, administrators, athletes and the corporate world to share our successes and failures.
“We believe it is through interacting at such forums that Zimbabwe sport can get stronger and this is why we have invited some of the reputable speakers like Wilfried Lemke.
“Lemke is a Germany national and his role as Special Adviser means he leads and co-ordinates the efforts of the United Nations systems to promote and support sport as an instrument for development and peace.
“The UN advocates that sport encourage dialogue and he will join the conference straight from the Fifa World Cup in Brazil,” said Mawere.
Mawere said they have also invited John Bales, who is the president for the International Council for Coaching Excellence and a former chief executive of the Coaching Association of Canada.
