A 42-YEAR-OLD man from Mphoengs has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Beitbridge Regional Court for raping his 14-year-old niece
The incident happened between 2023 and March 2024.
“The offender is the 14-year-old victim’s uncle, who also resides at the same homestead. The victim does not go to school. The court heard that on an unknown date in 2023, during the night, the offender returned home drunk from the business centre. He knocked on the door where the victim was sleeping with her grandmother, demanding food.
“The victim woke up and proceeded to the offender’s bedroom to serve him food and he refused the food, stating he no longer wanted food but instead wanted to have sexual intercourse with the victim,” reads a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
