AN 18 year old Chiredzi man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping his eight year old niece.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said on the 14 of February this year, the eight-year-old girl returned home from school and went to her bedroom to change her uniform.
“The accused person followed her into the bedroom, where he raped her once. After the incident the complainant left the house and went to her grandmother. The matter came to light when the grandmother noticed that the complainant was having difficulties in walking,” said the NPAZ.
When she was questioned, the NPAZ said, she revealed that the her uncle had raped her and the matter was reported to the police leading to the accused person’s arrest.
The uncle was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, the NPAZ said.
