Under-19s lose to Rwanda in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

ZIMBABWE lost a second consecutive match at the inaugural International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup after a 39 runs defeat at the hands of Rwanda at North-West University Ground, Potchefstroom, South Africa yesterday.

After electing to field first, the Kelis Ndhlovu-captained Zimbabwe Under-19 side restricted Rwanda to 119-8 in 20 overs and were bowled out for 80 runs in 18,4 overs to make it two straight defeats in the campaign after they lost by 174 against England on Sunday.

Chipo Moyo finished with the best bowling figures for Zimbabwe, taking three wickets and giving away 22 runs in her three over spell. In four overs, Kudzai Chigora took two scalps while Tawananyasha Marumani took one for 12 runs in two overs.

Rwanda captain, Gisele Ishimwe top scored for her side with 34 runs off 23 deliveries while Cynthia Tuyizere finished with 30 runs.
For the Young Lady Chevrons who were chasing a rather reachable target, Kelly Ndiraya and Natasha Mtomba were the two leading run getters both with 20 on the board.

Zimbawe Cricket Women Under 19 at ICC World Cup

Adel Zimunu chipped in with 11 runs as four of Zimbabwe’s batter fell for golden ducks with the team crumbling to another defeat.
Henriette Ishimwe finished with four wickets for Rwanda while Zurufat Ishimwe took two. The other wicket takers are Rosine Irera, Gisele Ishimwe and Geovanis Uwase who all took one each.

Zimbabwe’s next match is against Pakistan on Friday at the same venue.
Meanwhile, in other cricket news, Tuskers suffered a second consecutive defeat in the 2022/23 Logan Cup season after succumbing to a 206 runs defeat at the hands of Southern Rocks at Queens Sports Club yesterday.

Tuskers were bowled out for 215 in the second innings after Rocks declared on 295-8 with a lead of 421 runs. For the home side, two players managed to score half centuries with Australia based Awaq Naqvi finishing on an unbeaten 67 runs while opening batsman Tanunurwa Makoni scored 59 runs.

Captain Ainsley Ndlovu finished with 38 runs while Thamsanqa Nunu scored 16 runs. The four batsmen were the only ones who managed to cross double figures for Tuskers.
An excellent Roy Kaia bowling spell did the damage for Rocks as he finished with the figures of 7-58 in 35 overs.

Priviledge Chesa and Sydney Murombo took one wicket each to hand Rocks their first win of the season while Tuskers lost two in a row.In the other match between Mega Market Mountaineers and Rhinos, there was no winner with the match ending as a draw as the former were the only ones who managed to bat for two innings.
On Saturday, Mountaineers will face Eagles while Tuskers will go up against Rhinos. – @brandon_malvin
