Underdogs face topdogs . . . as Quelaton face leaders Bosso in derby

Quelaton are at the bottom of the log with just four points and at this stage, they are relegation favourites.

Most of the players from both teams know each other very well having played together at junior level and semi-professional lower division leagues.

Highlanders’ player-of-the-moment, Peter “Rio” Moyo, who has been a marvel in the Bosso midfield, was plucked from Quelaton at the beginning of the season and will be facing his former paymasters for the first time.

A darling among Bosso’s faithful who are beginning to believe that this is their season to claim glory, Moyo said he was looking forward to the game.

“I am grateful to Quelaton who gave me another chance to revive my career when I returned from South Africa last year. I served them loyally and played a part in making sure that they are promoted from Division One to the Premiership. However, I have moved on with my career and I am enjoying my game here. When we play them I just have to play my normal game if selected by the coach. I know for sure that we will treat them just like any of our opponents and give them the same respect but we will be out for maximum points,” said Moyo.

Moyo and his midfield partners Mthulisi Maphosa, Milton Ncube and Masimba Mambare had a good game on Sunday as they beat Caps United 1-0. That victory saw Bosso open a six-point lead with 31 points from 13 matches.

Moyo is aware that they cannot underrate Quelaton who are in a bad state.

“I think it’s still game on. You know all teams we play against want to be the first to stop our unbeaten run and my teammates are aware that we cannot take this game lightly because they are at the bottom,” said Moyo.

If his sentiments are anything to go by, then Kwela Kwela should expect a tough game.

Quelaton must go to Barbourfields Stadium knowing very well that an intimidating atmosphere of vociferous Bosso fans awaits them.

The ever-increasing attendance figures during Highlanders’ matches evidenced by the over 13 000 people who paid to watch Bosso’s 1-0 win over Caps United might have forced Quelaton to have their game at Emagumeni with the hope of cashing in on gate takings.

Mpumelelo “Makwe” Moyo, a former Highlanders junior player who is now at Quelaton said they had not thrown in the towel and would fight for the points.

“We have been working hard but it is unfortunate that results are not coming our way. Yes we respect Highlanders but I think Sunday’s game will be something else and they must expect a good run for their money,” said Moyo.

Former Bantu Rovers and national Under-20 utility player Pride Zireni, ex-AmaZulu, Lanchashire Steel and Hwange defender Prince “Ndongo” Ncube, skipper Innocent Kutsanzira, ex-Bosso midfielder Marshal Machazane and Tedius Mugumanja are some of the players expected to carry the day for Quelaton.

Having seen Peter being snapped up by Bosso soon after their pre-season friendly match which Quelaton won 2-1, most players from the struggling team will be hoping to impress and hope to attract other clubs’ attention.

Already, there are reports that Mhleli Sibanda impressed Caps United’s scouts and might be on his way to the capital.
