A WOMAN who allegedly stole her husband’s underwear for rituals at a local apostolic church’s shrine is now facing divorce as her husband is now terminating their marriage of 10 years.

The man, who has gone on to take a second wife, wants an equal share of their property.

It is said Netsai Mutirwa had put in a condition that in order for her to conceive, Tafadzwa Mugwagwa was supposed to get her a car and a house.

However, Netsai is yet to conceive.

This emerged at the Mutare Civil Court where the two were negotiating trial dates as Mutirwa is refusing to share the property.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato heard the matter.

In an interview, Tafadzwa Mugwagwa said he feels used.

“We have been together for 10 years. I took her children as if they were mine. I even went to the extent of sending them to school because they were like my own children.

“ I did this in the hope that one day she would honour our agreement and bear a child for me.

“I love kids and Netsai knows that. We were not yet officially married because she never fussed over that.

“Rather, she wanted me to buy a house and a car for her. I did that, although everything is in my name.

“We agreed that after the house and the car were bought, we would have the child that I have been dying to have, but she would always give me excuses.

“I thought that maybe l wasn’t able to impregnate a woman, but then I did what I did and I sired a child with another woman. This proved that Netsai was using me,” he said.

Mugwagwa said the last straw was when the woman stole his underwear to perform rituals at a local apostolic shrine.

“I am a truck driver and I come home here and there. So when I came to see her, I failed to locate the underwear that I was wearing.

“I asked her about it but she professed ignorance over it. This was not her first time to steal my underwear. I insisted until she claimed that she had washed it.

“I wondered why she had taken my underwear and left the rest of my dirty clothes. This was fishy and I then decided to terminate our relationship,” he said.

Butirwa refused to talk to Weekender.

Mugwagwa’s second wife, Angela Musenge, said she saw some text messages in her husband’s phone, in which Butirwa admitted that she had taken the underwear to a prophet’s shrine.

“I saw text messages in his phone. She said that she had taken the underwear garment because she wanted to use it. She had consulted one Nguwotsvuku prophet who instructed her to bring the underwear.

“The idea was to fix and lock him so that he becomes dysfunctional when he comes to my house.

“I told him that I cannot be part of that kind of a relationship as it puts my life at risk. Initially, he had suggested the she surrenders either the house or the car, but she is refusing with both and that is why we are here today.

“He needs to get his property back,” said Musenge.
