admincompany Pondering Panda to find out what South Africans think of the nine challenges that the National Planning Commission (NPC) identified earlier this year.
“The survey was to gauge the reaction of South Africa’s youth between the ages of 15 and 34 years old to the questions facing South Africa,” Pondering Panda spokeswoman Shirley Wakefield said on Monday.
Healthcare came next to unemployment and education in terms of importance, with about one third of respondents (36 percent) worried about the ailing public healthcare system.
Transport was seen as the least important issue, with only 8 percent of youngsters regarding it as a national challenge.
Wakefield said the results can help the government prioritise its strategic efforts.
“These results should be noted by our national government, as they provide a very clear picture of where South Africa’s youth feel the government should prioritise their strategic efforts,” said Wakefield.
The survey, conducted from May 11 to 14, used mobile phones to interview 5,814 respondents representative of the national population in the relevant age groups.
Other challenges listed by the NPC are poorly located and inadequate infrastructure, unsustainable growth, the marginalisation of the poor, uneven public services, corruption and society division. — Xinhua.
