AN unidentified Bulawayo man was on Sunday found dead at the intersection of Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and Eighth Avenue after he was hit by a speeding car in a suspected hit-and-run, police confirmed yesterday.
The deceased, believed to be in his 30s, sustained a skull fracture.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, said the incident occurred at around 8pm.
He said no arrests have been made and investigations are underway.
“We are currently investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Sunday at around 8pm. An unknown motorist knocked down the deceased who could have been 30 years old at the intersection of Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and Eighth Avenue in Bulawayo’s central business district,” he said.
“The victim was wearing a green cap, a black t-shirt, black trousers, and black Nike sports shoes and was carrying a khaki satchel. We are appealing to anyone who may have a missing relative matching that description to contact Bulawayo Central Traffic police for assistance.”

Inspector Ncube said they have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
“The motorist didn’t stop, and the victim tragically died on the spot. As police, we are also appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to help us with information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest,” said the police spokesperson.
“We further implore the motorist responsible for the accident to come forward and report this incident to the police. In terms of the law, an accident is supposed to be reported within 24 hours.”
The body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) for post-mortem.
Lately, there has been an increase in hit-and-run incidents in the city.
Last month, a 55-year-old man died on the spot after he was hit by a Honda Fit and the driver did not stop. The incident occurred along Percy Iboston Road in Cowdray Park.
During the same month, a cyclist was found dead along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road after he was knocked down by a car in a hit-and-run incident.
