A 10-YEAR-OLD girl was recently raped in the bushy area of Chipinge medium-density suburb by an unknown person who paid him a $1.
Chipinge District police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Blessing Kadzuraumera, confirmed the incident and said the complainant was walking alone on her way to Usanga medium- density suburb from school when she was raped.
“While approaching the bushy side of Usanga, the complainant met the unknown rapist who greeted her and gave her $1.
“The accused person who is still at large told the complainant that he was sent by her mother to collect her from school. He led her to the bushy area.
“They walked for approximately 70 meters away from the footpath where she was raped.
“After the act the accused threatened to harm the complainant if she tells anyone about the incident. The accused left the complainant and disappeared from the scene. The complainant proceeded home and did not inform anyone.
“The matter came to light on February 21 when complainant’s mother noticed some changes in her daughter’s behaviour as she had difficulties in walking. She interviewed her and she narrated her ordeal to her. A report was made to Chipinge Urban Police Station and investigations are in progress,” he said. Asst Insp Kadzuraumera encouraged school children to walk in groups and not to associate with strangers
