It was proved that Masunda caused the accident by encroaching into the right lane and side-swiped an oncoming vehicle on July 27 this year.
Masunda was found guilty on two counts – driving a car without a licence and negligent driving.
Mr Makomo sentenced him to 18 months in prison for the first count and six months for the second.
He said Masunda had no concrete reason for driving the car without a driver’s licence.
Masunda said he had been mischievous with the radio in his parents’ car and blew off some fuses.
He then drove the car to Makoni Shopping Centre to buy new fuses for replacement.
Along the way, Masunda, who was driving the Nissan Caravan along an unnamed road in Unit J, Seke, noticed police officers on patrol.
The officers signaled him to stop, but he accelerated, resulting in him encroaching into the other lane side-swiping Sally Hlatswayo’s Honda CRV.
Hlatswayo’s car had a dent but noone was injured.
