Unlicensed driver put behind bars

In addition, Simon Munhungwa of 13796 Unit N in Chitungwiza was banned from driving any type of vehicle for the next three years.

Munhungwa on Monday admitted to two counts of driving without a licence and negligent driving when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.
Mr Murendo slapped him with a three-year jail term for the first count and six months for the second one. One year of his sentence was suspended on condition that he will not commit a similar offence in the next five years.

Prosecutor Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa proved that Munhungwa on February 24 and at around 8.30am was driving a Toyota Hiace along Chaminuka Road in St Mary’s with no passengers on board.

Munhungwa overtook another vehicle in front of oncoming traffic resulting in a head on collision with another Hiace going the opposite direction. He went on to side-swipe another Toyota Dyna driven by one Innocent Vambe.

The vehicle had its windscreen shattered while a view mirror was dislodged from its position. The drivers of the two damaged vehicles apprehended and handed Munhungwa over to the police where it was discovered that he was driving without a valid driver’s licence.
